Solitary Osteolytic Skull Metastasis in a Case of Unknown Primary Being latter Diagnosed as Carcinoma of Gall Bladder

چکیده
Disseminated blood borne metastases from carcinoma of the gall bladder are uncommon and occur late in the course of the disease. Of all the distant sites that can be involved by the metastatic disease, the skeletal system is the least commonly involved. Skeletal metastasis in a case of carcinoma gall bladder is rare to find and when it is associated with solitary skull metastasis it is even rarer. we report an unusual case of osteolytic skull metastasis as the only site of metastasis diagnosed by Magnetic resonance imaging and Computed tomography imaging, from an unknown primary which was diagnosed latter as carcinoma of gall bladder. Our case report emphasize the need of a well-organized cohort study in skeletal metastasis in carcinoma of gall bladder with emphasis on whether to include bone scan or Computed tomography scan as routine protocol or not and if excision of this solitary metastasis improves quality of life of the patient in a resectable stage of carcinoma gall bladder.

Introduction: Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is the second most common malignant form of thyroid cancers. FTC is more common in women with a peak incidence in the fifth and sixth decades of life. Invasion into blood vessels may lead to distant metastasis to bone, lung, liver or elsewhere. FTC rarely manifests itself as a distant metastatic lesion, especially as solitary metastasis. Case r...

On brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a highly enhanced and osteolytic skull tumor was observ...
متن کاملSkeletal Metastasis From Carcinoma of the Gall Bladder: Need for Bone Scintigraphy Justified?
BACKGROUND Carcinoma of the gall bladder has a guarded prognosis with predominant sites of involvement being liver and regional nodes. Osseous metastasis in carcinoma of the gall bladder is rare and hence bone scintigraphy does not form a part of the routine work-up for such patients. CASE REPORTS We describe two patients with carcinoma of the gall bladder with osteolytic metastasis (stage 4)...
